ALMOST REAL TIME TRANSLATION FROM SKYPE

Microsoft recently showcased a tool to break the language barrier

the tool is in a form of Skype update, the update enables user to do near real time translation by serving as an interpreter

Most impressive is the speed – not quite real-time, but the translation is spoken almost as soon as you’re done talking.

The system uses a neural network-based speech recognition, which is then translated by Microsoft Translate (which powers Bing Translate) and the result is converted back to speech. You can read more about the system at Microsoft Research.

Skype Translator will launch by the end of the year for Windows 8 first as a limited beta.

By the way, Google has been working on a similar service with Google Translate since as early as 2011.

Microsoft will be releasing a Lower cost version of their new Windows 8.1

Although there is a catch, this version of windows will be only available to the OEM manufacturers and Internet Explorer with Bing will be the default browser/search engine combination. Microsoft will be trying to recover the revenue  lost in discount by the revenues of Bing ads. although these setting are changeable.
this  difference is pretty much the only difference in this version of the windows
For the OEMs this  version will cost $15 as compared to normal version which costs $50
saving $35 by manually changing the Search engine option sounds like a good deal
